Wuppermann Metalltechnik Opens New Tube Plant in Austria

As reported by Kallanish, Wuppermann Metalltechnik (WMT) has opened a new tube plant at its Altmünster site in Austria. The project, with an estimated budget of €40 million, expands the facility’s production capabilities in the segment of tubes with complex geometries and special surface types. For the European market, this indicates a stronger offering in niches where customers increasingly demand customized solutions, stable quality, and shorter production cycles.

New Capacities and Technical Capabilities

Construction began in July 2023, and the first tube was produced in July 2025. The commissioning of the current rolling stand and the internal tube scraping system was completed in the fall. The new production line is adjacent to Wuppermann’s existing facilities, streamlining logistics and manufacturing processes.

According to the company, the line allows for a significantly wider range of sizes, including complex and custom geometries. This includes cross-sections up to 130 mm and wall thicknesses from 1 to 4 mm. A distinct advantage is the ability to offer products with pickled, galvanized, or zinc-magnesium surfaces, enhancing their suitability for mechanical engineering, infrastructure, and industrial applications.

The infrastructure of the project also reflects a long-term investment. To build the 8,860 sq. m production hall, 100 precast reinforced concrete columns were installed. Furthermore, the facility has installed geothermal probes with a total length of approximately 5,000 m to ensure climate-neutral heating in the future.

Market Impact and Solutions from winox.ua

The launch of WMT’s new tube plant intensifies the competitive landscape in the European metal processing market. For manufacturers and traders, it signals a shift in demand toward more technologically advanced tube products, where geometric precision, coating types, and serial production stability are critical. For international businesses, this emphasizes the need for high-quality materials and reliable supply chains.

In this market context, winox.ua serves as a practical partner for industrial consumers requiring certified rolled metal for production, metalworking, and engineering projects. The company carefully selects manufacturers and provides products that meet modern quality standards, including stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and other industrial-grade materials. This is particularly vital as the European market raises its requirements for both raw materials and finished components.

Interest in the Austrian market is further driven by a general recovery in steel production. By the end of 2025, Austrian metallurgical companies increased steel output by 5.9% compared to 2024, reaching 620,000 tons, ranking the country 20th in the WorldSteel global rankings. Against this backdrop, new investments in the tube segment confirm that European manufacturers continue to expand specialized capacities despite high costs and fierce competition.
