Ukrzaliznytsia Boosts Revenue from Ferrous Scrap Metal Sales

According to Dmytro Kysylevskyi, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Development, as of April 28, JSC Ukrzaliznytsia has already received 439.9 million UAH from the sale of ferrous scrap metal. Data indicates that in four months, the company sold 69.7 thousand tons of raw materials, exceeding the results of the entire year 2025 in both volume and revenue. All the raw materials sold are directed to domestic processing at metallurgical and foundry plants, while UZ uses the funds raised to renew rolling stock and improve its financial condition.

Drivers Behind the Acceleration of Scrap Sales

The current results for Ukrzaliznytsia exceed the annual figures of 2025 by 16.7% in tonnage and 10% in revenue. For comparison, last year the company sold only 60 thousand tons of scrap for 400 million UAH, whereas this year it plans to increase sales to 220 thousand tons. This indicates a significant acceleration in auction activity right from the start of the year.

Market experts identify the zero export quota for scrap metal introduced by the government as a key factor. This step reduced uncertainty regarding the further circulation of raw materials and limited speculative pressure from traders. A second important driver was the increased transparency of UZ auctions, which made procedures clearer for industrial buyers and intensified competition for lots.

Effectively, this is not just about the national carrier's revenue growth, but also about restoring a predictable supply channel of strategic raw materials for Ukrainian metallurgy. Given that in 2025, exports of Ukrainian scrap metal increased by 53% to reach 448.68 thousand tons, redirecting a portion of resources to domestic processing is of systemic importance for the industry.

Impact on the Steel Market and winox.ua Solutions

For metallurgical and foundry enterprises, the increase in scrap sales by Ukrzaliznytsia means a more stable supply of raw materials within the country. This is especially important when enterprises are operating under the pressure of high energy costs, logistical risks, and the need to maintain a competitive cost of production. The more predictable the access to scrap, the higher the stability of the entire metal production chain.

This trend also has practical significance for the metal rolling supply segment. When domestic processing receives more raw materials, the market responds better to demand from machine building, construction, and industrial production. In this context, winox.ua, as a supplier of metal rolling, stainless steel, and non-ferrous metals, provides customers with reliable supplies and a more predictable pricing policy, which is critical for procurement planning in the B2B sector.

Considering the activation of the domestic raw materials market, industrial consumers should closely monitor the balance between scrap sales, steel smelting, and the actual supply of finished rolled products. For manufacturing companies, this is a signal to form procurement strategies in advance, relying not only on the spot price but also on the stability of the supply channel and material quality.
